The laboratory for microbiological material investigations at the Bremen Institute of Materials Testing offers due to its specific lab-technical equipment and long-standing experience of their employees on the field of biocorrosion and of biofouling a qualified and practical consulting on problems that arise in connection with the biogenic damage of materials.

Microbially induced corrosion on iron surface

Proof, analysis and evaluation of microbially induced cases of damage at materials
Building-Biological consulting and hygienic investigations of air in living and working rooms according to TBRA 430/BSA 9420
Inspection of the contamination and/or biocorrosion resistance of materials; according to cases of damage and/or to acknowledged test standards or guidelines (Excerpt):

of ISO 846 (Plastics-Evaluation of the action of microorganisms)
ASTM G 22-76 (Standard Practice for Determining Resistance of Synthetic Polymeric Materials to Bacteria)
ASTM G 21-96 (Standard Practice for Determining Resistance of Synthetic Polymeric Materials to Fungi)
VdL-RL 06 and 07 (Guideline for the resistance of coating materials against fungal and alga attack)

Selection and recommendation of corrosion inhibitors and/or biocidic additives with regard to their material compatibility and oekotoxiciologic effects
Interdisciplinary evaluation of microbially induced corrosion and biofouling in the field of material degradation with regard to the development of effective countermeasures.
